Tottenham’s Gareth Bale signings: Where are they now?

Tottenham recently sold Harry Kane to Bayern Munich for a fee of around £100 million and since have used the funds to rebuild their squad well. With the signings of Maddison, Johnson and several others I think it’s safe to say that they’re moving in the right direction.

This whole rebuild from Spurs reminded me of when they were in the same situation exactly a decade ago.

After selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a world record fee of €100 million, Tottenham had to use the money to rebuild their squad to prepare for the post Bale era. Today we are going to look at the signings they made and see where they currently are now.

Paulinho – £17 million

The midfielder currently plays for the team that Tottenham signed him from, Corinthians.

He had a brief time at Barcelona where he won a league title and a Copa del Rey.

His most successful period since leaving Tottenham was in China for Guangzhou Evergrande where he scored 47 goals in 81 appearances over the course of 3 years and won 7 titles.

Christian Eriksen – £11 million

Probably the best signing of Tottenham’s summer transfer window as he was heavily involved in their title charge as well as their 2018/19 Champions League campaign.

Eriksen has been most successful in Italy where he won a league title and domestic cup for Inter Milan.

He currently plays in the Premier League for Manchester United. Where he has won a Carabao Cup.

Roberto Soldado – £26 million

After he scored 25, 26 and 30 goals in consecutive seasons in Spain, Soldado was expected to replicate his form in England.

However, he only managed to score 7 goals in over 50 league appearances for Tottenham.

He was sold to Villarreal after two seasons and hasn’t won a major trophy ever since.

Statistically, His most impressive season was when he scored 14 goals in all competitions for Granada in the 2020/21 season.

An underwhelming signing is putting it lightly.

Nacer Chadli – £7 million

After a lacklustre debut season, Chadli managed to score 11 goals and assist 5 times in the league. However, he only stayed at Tottenham for 3 years before joining West Brom.

He now currently plays for Westerlo after completing a loan spell with them last season.

Etienne Capoue – £9.3 million

Another player that didn’t last long in North London as he only stayed at the club for two years before joining Watford for 6 seasons.

He now plays for Villarreal where he won man of the match in a Europa League final win against Manchester United.

Vlad Chiriches – £8.5 million

After two years the Romainian defender moved to Serie A side Napoli where he stayed for 5 years. He now currently plays for FCSB, the team Tottenham signed him from, where he won 2 league titles as well as a domestic cup.

Erik Lamela – £30 million

Erik Lamela spent the longest time at the club. His most successful season was the 15/16 season where he scored 11 goals and got 10 assists.

He won the Puskas award after scoring a stunning rabona goal in the North London derby.

Since leaving Tottenham he has managed to win the Europa League with Sevilla, the team he currently plays for.
